Residents south of Sudan's capital this week received the first humanitarian aid since the start of a 20-month war between the army and paramilitaries that has devastated the country, volunteers said.
A total of 28 trucks have arrived in Jebel Auli, a town 40 kilometers south of Khartoum, according to a local volunteer network that distributes food and food parcels, organizes evacuations and provides first aid, AFP reported.
The convoy included 22 trucks carrying food from the UN World Food Programme, one aid truck from Médecins sans frontieres and five trucks with medicine from the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF).
A local volunteer group and UNICEF said the supplies will help meet the immediate health and food needs of around 200.000 children and families.
Since the start of the war in April 2023 between the Sudanese military and the Rapid Support Paramilitary Forces, nothing has been able to enter or leave Sudan without the approval of both sides.
