The city authorities of Rio de Janeiro announced this evening that about 2,5 million people are expected at the New Year's Eve celebrations on the famous Copacabana beach tomorrow.
In addition to the traditional fireworks, there will be concerts on three stages with big names in Brazilian music, such as pop star Anita or carnival queen Iveta Sangalo.
But one of the most anticipated concerts will undoubtedly be the concert of Ketan Velozo, the leading figure of the local music, together with his sister Maria Bethania.
Security will be increased compared to last year, local authorities said, adding that 3.300 police officers will be deployed on Copacabana Beach alone.
Police will use metal detectors, drones and facial recognition surveillance cameras.
With the influx of tourists throughout the country, the city authorities of Rio de Janeiro are counting on earnings of 3,2 billion reais (about 500 million euros) for the New Year holidays.
