Media and analysts in the European Union point out that the EU is anxiously awaiting Donald Trump's rise to power in America, but also notes that much of the world is awaiting it with optimism.
The French newspaper Le Figaro, among others, suggests that Europe has the most to lose in major changes to the international order.
Polish media outlet V politica warns that it should never be concluded that Trump is a reckless ruler and says that a new reality is emerging, a return to states of politicians in the classical sense, which means that it is primarily about interests and power, not values.
The Italian daily La Repubblica writes that as president, Trump will do everything to change the world in accordance with the slogan "America First".
This is clearly reflected, he adds, from territorial claims towards Canada and Greenland, to the trade war, the Middle East and Putin - nothing will ever be the same again.
Le Figaro moreover emphasizes that "a paralyzed Europe has held its breath, while most of the world awaits changes in the world order with a certain satisfaction."
Director of the International Center for Defense and Security, Kristi Raik, believes that "the old, liberal, rules-based world order has been shattered, and Trump seems keen to consolidate it, and now we are facing a period of power struggles between the greatest powers, and old concepts like spheres of influence are also in vogue."
The German portal Deutsche Welle states that "the EU welcomes Trump with an unstable Berlin-Paris axis, as Germany and France face major economic and financial problems and government crises."
The new White House boss, adds Deutsche Welle, "has threatened Europeans with the introduction of high tariffs on European products, cuts in US aid to Ukraine and renewed demands that divided European partners pay more for NATO funds."
European Central Bank officials do not rule out the possibility of a trade war between the EU and the US, in a situation where the International Monetary Fund has predicted economic growth in America and a new decline in the euro zone in the EU, which is also reflected in the decline in the value of the euro, whose exchange rate has practically equaled the dollar.
The Parisian daily Le Monde indicates that Trump is surrounded by a team of close loyalists determined to make a historic turnaround.
The new American president promises "a new golden age for America," says Le Monde, but notes that the team around Trump is fraught with the danger of confusing the general and individual interests and enrichment like never before, like Elon Musk, who has multiple roles: as the boss of SpaceX, Tesla, Network X, and a means of propaganda in the service of the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement.
