US President Donald Trump today urged business leaders gathered at the World Economic Forum in Davos to come and "make in America" or "you will have to pay tariffs" to sell your products in the US.
"My message to all businesses in the world is simple - come make your products in America and you will have some of the lowest taxes in the world. But if you don't make them in the US, which is your right, then, quite simply, you will have to pay tariffs," Trump said in an online speech.
On Monday, upon returning to the White House, the US president reiterated his intention to impose tariffs on some of the US's main trading partners, namely China, but also Canada and Mexico, which are theoretically protected by the free trade agreement between the three North American countries.
During the speech, Trump called on Saudi Arabia and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to lower oil prices, saying it should have been done sooner and would have helped end the war in Ukraine.
"I will ask Saudi Arabia and OPEC to lower the price of oil, and I am honestly surprised they did not do it before the (US) election. If the price had been lower, the war in Ukraine would have ended immediately," Trump added.
