Iranians are marking the 46th anniversary of the Islamic Republic's victory today by taking to the streets in Tehran and across the country.
State television has been broadcasting live videos and photos of people on the streets of cities and villages since this morning, accompanied by patriotic songs.
In Tehran, residents began moving early in the morning towards the main gathering point around the Azadi Tower (freedom in Persian), located in the west of the Iranian capital.
President Masoud Pezeshkian is scheduled to deliver a speech at a rally in Tehran, state media reported.
Chanting anti-American and anti-Israeli slogans, people also took to the streets in Shiraz and Bandar Abbas (in the south), Rasht (in the north), Mashhad (in the east), and Kermanshah and Sana'a (in the west).
Citizens with their families carry Iranian flags and flags of pro-Iranian groups, such as the pro-Iranian Lebanese movement Hezbollah, as well as portraits of the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Celebrations marking the overthrow of the Pahlavi monarchy begin each year on January 31, the anniversary of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini's return to Tehran in 1979 from exile in Paris.
In recent days, many officials in the Islamic Republic have called on the nation to participate in large numbers in the celebration, which takes place after the return to power of US President Donald Trump, who advocates a policy of so-called "maximum pressure" against Tehran.
