Hamas announced today the arrival of its delegation to Cairo for talks on a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, the aim of which is to "put an end to the crisis".
"A delegation led by Khalil al-Haya, head of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, arrived in Cairo and began talks with Egyptian officials on the implementation of the ceasefire agreement," the Palestinian movement said in a statement.
An unnamed Hamas official told AFP that the delegation would "discuss ways to end the current crisis and ensure (Israel's) commitment to implementing the agreement."
The ceasefire in the Gaza Strip came into effect on January 19th.
During the first six-week phase of the ceasefire, Hamas pledged to release 33 hostages captured in an attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, while Israel promised to release about 2.000 Palestinian prisoners. The two sides have carried out five exchanges since January 19.
