A dual American-Lebanese citizen (23) who stabbed writer Salman Rushdie in 2022 was found guilty today of attempted murder in a trial in the United States (US) after a two-week trial, a court in the US state of New York announced.
Hadi Matar, who grew up in the United States, was found guilty of two crimes he was charged with in a court in Mayville, near the Canadian border - attempted murder and assault, a court spokesman told AFP.
He will be sentenced on Sunday morning, the same source said.
Hadi Matar, who has always pleaded not guilty in this case, could receive 25 and seven years in prison for these crimes, respectively.
On August 12, 2022, he stabbed the author of "The Satanic Verses" in an attack that left the American-British writer with loss of vision in his right eye.
