Mexico has a backup plan if the United States imposes tariffs, as previously threatened, President Claudia Sheinbaum said.
She added that she will speak more about this topic tomorrow, but that whatever the US decides, Mexico is ready.
"We have a plan B, C, D," Sheinbaum said, without providing details about those plans.
Mexican officials met with their U.S. counterparts in Washington last week to discuss trade and security policy, in an attempt by Mexico to prevent the imposition of tariffs, Reuters reports.
Sheinbaum described the meetings in Washington as "cordial" and said that coordination with the US has been very good so far.
Trump has accused Mexico and Canada of not doing enough to stop the flow of synthetic drugs like fentanyl and the arrival of migrants at their borders with the US, and has vowed sweeping tariffs if the countries do not tackle both problems.
US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said tariffs on Canada and Mexico would take effect tomorrow, but that President Donald Trump would decide whether to stick to the planned 25 percent level.
