The Ocean Viking ship, chartered by the SOS Mediterranean emergency relief organization, rescued 25 people off the coast of Libya today, including three women and seven minors, the Marseille-based NGO said.
The rescued migrants were taken in by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the organization added, noting that the call for help was made by a migrant on an unstable boat from his mobile phone.
According to the latest data from the International Organization for Migration, 247 people have disappeared or died in the Mediterranean Sea since the beginning of the year while trying to reach Europe.
