The Foreign Ministers of Turkey and the United States (US), Hakan Fidan and Marco Rubio, emphasized during a meeting in Washington the importance of Bosnia and Herzegovina's stability for the wider Balkan region.
The Turkish news agency Anadolu reported that sources from the Turkish Foreign Ministry said that the ministers discussed regional security and cooperation, with particular attention to the Balkans.
The foreign ministers of the two countries also emphasized the importance of cooperation with the new Syrian government.
Fidan and Rubio also discussed the need for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, which is considered crucial for regional peace, sources told Anadolu Agency.
"Both sides have clearly expressed the political will to remove obstacles to defense cooperation," and technical meetings are underway to resolve them, the sources added.
They also discussed efforts to achieve a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, and Turkey expressed support for the US's work on this.
Sources told Anadolu Agency that the Turkish and US foreign ministers also discussed the ongoing peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The State Department says they discussed cooperation on key security and trade issues and that Rubio sought Turkey's support for peace in Ukraine and the South Caucasus.
He reiterated the need for close cooperation to support a "stable, united, peaceful" Syria that would not be a base for international terrorism, nor a breeding ground for Iran's destabilizing activities.
"The Secretary also noted recent progress in bilateral trade and encouraged further economic partnership. Finally, the Secretary expressed concern about recent arrests and protests in Turkey" - following the arrest of leading opposition figure, Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, the State Department said in a statement.
