American citizen Faye Hall said she was released by the Taliban administration after being detained in Afghanistan last month.
"I have never been more proud to be an American citizen," Hall said in a video posted by United States President Donald Trump on the Truth Social platform.
"Thank you, Mr. President," she added.
Trump replied to her: "I am honored by your words."
Former US Special Representative for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad previously announced the news of her release on the X platform.
A US official said Adam Boehler, the special presidential envoy for hostage issues, had negotiated her release with Qatari officials and other mediators.
Hall was arrested in February along with a British couple, Barb and Peter Reynolds.
British media reported that the couple, who are in their seventies, had been running projects in Afghan schools for 18 years and decided to stay in the country even after the Taliban returned to power in 2021.
There was no mention of the fate of the couple, whose family is appealing for their release, expressing concerns for their health.
The source previously stated that Hall was released on March 27 by court order and with logistical support from Qatar.
Hall was admitted to the Qatari embassy in Kabul, where medical examinations confirmed that she was in good health, the source said.
Several American citizens remain in detention in Afghanistan.
