US President Donald Trump has warned his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky not to reject a mineral resources agreement or he could be "in big trouble".
"I see him (Zelensky) trying to pull out of the mineral resources agreement. And if he does that, he's going to be in trouble. He's going to have big, big problems," Trump said last night.
The President of the United States (US) is pressuring Zelensky to sign an agreement allowing American companies to mine Ukrainian minerals while a ceasefire agreement is being negotiated between Ukraine and Russia.
"We agreed on it, and now he (Zelensky) says he wants to renegotiate it. He wants Ukraine to become a member of NATO. So he will never be a member of the Alliance, and he understands that. So now he's asking for renegotiation," Trump said.
The President of Ukraine said on Friday evening that he had received a new version of the agreement on the strategic exploitation of Ukrainian mineral resources from the United States, which, according to media reports, is very unfavorable for Ukraine.
After more than three years of war in Ukraine, Trump wants to end the conflict. To that end, he has broken the diplomatic isolation that the West imposed on Russian President Vladimir Putin after the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
His administration is pushing for a quick end to the war and is holding indirect talks with Russian and Ukrainian officials. Those talks have not yet led to any concrete breakthrough.
