Russian President Vladimir Putin's special envoy for investment and economic cooperation, Kirill Dmitriev, said he will hold meetings in Washington today with US representatives, amid bilateral rapprochement between Russia and the US.
Dmitriev wrote earlier via Telegram that he was scheduled to hold meetings in Washington on April 2 and 3 with representatives of President Donald Trump.
This is the first visit by a senior Russian official to Washington since the start of the Russian offensive in Ukraine in February 2022, writes Agence France-Presse.
Dmitriev stressed in his message that the resumption of dialogue with the US is a difficult and gradual process. "But every meeting, every honest conversation allows us to move forward. A true understanding of Russia's position opens up new opportunities for constructive interaction, including in the investment and economic spheres," he added, according to the Russian news agency TASS.
At the same time, Dmitriev noted that opponents of rapprochement fear that Russia and the US will find a common language, begin to understand each other better, and build cooperation – both in international affairs and in the economy.
Yesterday it was announced that Dimitriev spoke with US President's envoy Steve Witkoff in Washington, TASS reports.
