US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said today in Brussels that it will be known in a few weeks whether Russia wants peace in Ukraine or not.
After a two-day meeting of NATO foreign ministers, Rubio told reporters that US President Donald Trump "will not fall into the trap of endless negotiations about negotiations."
Rubio said Ukraine had expressed its readiness for a complete ceasefire to create "space for negotiations," AFP reported.
"We will know quite quickly — in a few weeks, not a few months, whether Russia is serious about peace or not," Rutte said.
The US diplomat also said that Kirill Dmitriev, Russian President Vladimir Putin's special envoy, will arrive in the US this week, which will be the first visit by a senior Russian official to Washington since the start of the Russian offensive in Ukraine in February 2022.
"They will come back (to Russia) with messages. And the message is that the United States needs to know whether or not you are serious about peace," Rubio added.
Rubio also said today that the US will not allow Greenland, the largest island in the world that belongs to Denmark, to become dependent on China.
"We're not going to let China come in and offer them a lot of money to become dependent on them," Rubio said of the Danish autonomous territory that Trump wants to annex.
He also referred to US Vice President J.D. Vance's visit to Greenland at the end of March, which provoked strong reactions from Denmark.
"Vice President Vance has made it clear that he will respect the right of Greenlanders to self-determination. At one point, Greenlanders made it clear that they want to be independent from Denmark. So Denmark needs to focus on the fact that Greenlanders do not want to be part of Denmark," Rubio said.
