American multibillionaire Elon Musk, a member of US President Donald Trump's administration, expressed hope today that a free trade zone will be formed between Europe and North America, through which business will be carried out without tariffs.
Musk made the remarks while speaking via video link at the Congress of the Italian anti-immigrant League party in Florence.
"Europe and the US should ideally evolve, in my opinion, towards a zero-tariff situation, thus creating a free trade zone between Europe and North America," Musk said, adding that the US and Europe could establish a very close partnership.
Musk was speaking at a rally of the party led by Matteo Salvini, one of Musk's supporters.
The American multibillionaire's statement comes three days after Trump imposed 20 percent tariffs on goods coming to the US from the European Union (EU).
Musk, close to Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni, criticized "mass immigration" in his speech, saying it leads to the destruction of a country that accepts it.
