Russian President Vladimir Putin praised Elon Musk yesterday, comparing him to Sergei Korolev, the chief engineer responsible for the Soviet Union's space successes in the 1950s and 1960s, the state news agency TASS reported.
Putin, speaking about Russian space policy at a meeting with students, said: “You know, there is a man who lives in the United States, you could say he is completely obsessed with Mars.”
"Such people rarely appear in the human population, they are guided by a certain idea. Although such ideas may seem incredible to us today, over time they often come true," Putin said.
Putin has previously praised Musk, whose business interests include space technology company SpaceX, calling him an “exceptional person.” Musk, who is one of US President Donald Trump’s top advisers, has been increasingly vocal in his criticism of Ukraine, which has been fighting a Russian invasion since 2022.
