An Israeli airstrike on a school housing displaced families in northern Gaza killed at least ten people today, while another hit a children's hospital, medics said, as three European leaders called on Israel to end its blockade on aid, Reuters reported.
Since the January ceasefire collapsed on March 18, Israeli attacks have killed more than 1.600 Palestinians, according to Gaza health authorities, and hundreds of thousands have been displaced as Israel seized what it calls the Gaza buffer zone.
Israel has also imposed a blockade on all goods in Gaza, including fuel and electricity, since early March.
The foreign ministers of Germany, France and the United Kingdom today jointly called on Israel to abide by international law and allow unhindered passage of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
They also called for a ceasefire to be established and for the release of the remaining hostages held by the Hamas militant group.
"Humanitarian aid must never be used as a political tool and the Palestinian territory must not be reduced or subjected to any demographic changes," the ministers said in a statement.
Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Oren Marmorstein rejected the statement, claiming there was no shortage of aid in Gaza, although doctors and civilians say medical and food supplies are running low.
Doctors said an airstrike on the Jaffa School in the Tufa area of Gaza City set tents and classrooms on fire. There was no comment from Israel on the attack on the school.
Some furniture was still ablaze hours after the attack as people walked through blackened classrooms and the schoolyard in search of their belongings, Reuters writes.
"We were sleeping and suddenly something exploded and we found the whole school on fire, the tents were on fire, everything was on fire," said Um Mohamed Al-Hwaiti, who was an eyewitness.
"People were shouting and carrying other people, charred, charred children, walking and saying, 'Dear God, dear God, we have no one but you.' What can we say? Dear God, just," she told Reuters.
Doctors said at least 36 people were killed in today's Israeli strikes across Gaza.
