The head of Israel's Shin Bet internal security service, Ronen Bar, announced today that he will resign in June over his agency's failure to warn of Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, thus preventing further escalation of the conflict with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
At least he said he would formally step down from office on June 15th.
Netanyahu tried to fire Bar last month over what he said was a crisis of confidence over Hamas attacks.
However, the move has sparked discontent in Israel as the agency is investigating links between the Israeli leader's office and Qatar - a key mediator between Hamas and Israel over the war in Gaza.
