Iranian authorities warned today that the continuation of US sanctions policies "will not change" Iran's position.
In a message posted on Thursday on the social network Truth Social, US President Donald Trump said he wanted to "immediately" step up enforcement of sanctions targeting buyers of Iranian oil, as part of his so-called "maximum pressure" policy on Iran.
"All purchases of Iranian oil or petrochemicals must cease immediately. Any country or person that purchases any quantity of Iranian oil or petrochemical products will be subject to immediate indirect sanctions," Trump added.
"The continuation of this illegal behavior will not change Iran's position, which is logical, legitimate and based on international law," the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
It added that these sanctions have sown "deep suspicion and distrust in the seriousness of the US commitment to the diplomatic path."
On the other hand, the foreign minister of Oman, a country that is mediating between the US and Iran, said on Thursday that the fourth round of talks scheduled for this Sunday between the two countries on Iran's nuclear program had been postponed for "logistical reasons."
The fourth round of indirect talks was planned for tomorrow in Rome.
