The Israeli army confirmed today that it is calling up "tens of thousands of reservists" for its offensive in the Gaza Strip and stated that its goal is to destroy the entire infrastructure of the Palestinian Hamas movement.
"This week we are calling up tens of thousands of reservists to strengthen and expand our operation in Gaza," said the army's chief of staff, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir.
He added that the army is increasing pressure to return the hostages and "defeat Hamas."
"We are increasing the pressure to return our (hostages) and defeat Hamas. We will operate in other areas and destroy all (its) infrastructure, both above and below ground," Zamir said.
Israeli media reported on Saturday that the Israeli army has begun sending mobilization orders to reservists in recent days, planning to call up tens of thousands of them in preparation for an expanded offensive against the Palestinian Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip.
Reservists should be sent to replace conscripts or active-duty soldiers throughout the country, as well as in the occupied West Bank, so that these soldiers and conscripts can be sent to fight in the Gaza Strip.
