French President Emmanuel Macron said today that the situation in the Gaza Strip is currently "the most critical it has ever been" and added that "the forced displacement of the Palestinian population" envisaged by Israel is unacceptable.
"Never, never has the population been so far from medical assistance for so long, impossible to save the injured, far from food, medicine and water," Macron said during a press conference at the Elysee Palace with new German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
Macron once again called on Israel to reopen the humanitarian aid passage to the Palestinian territory, which Israel has blocked since March 2.
For weeks, UN officials and NGOs have been issuing warnings about the risk of famine in the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli government has stated that the aim of the blockade is to force the Palestinian movement Hamas to release hostages still held in Palestinian territory from the attack on October 7, 2023.
Israeli authorities announced on Monday that they were launching a new military offensive that includes the "conquest" of the Gaza Strip and the mass displacement of the population within the territory.
