The armed wing of the Palestinian militant group Hamas said it had released an American-Israeli hostage held in Gaza, as previously announced.
Hamas announced the release of Adan Alexander as a goodwill gesture towards the administration of United States President Donald Trump in an effort to revive negotiations to end the war.
The Israeli military said Alexander is being escorted by Red Cross representatives to Israeli forces.
The release of the only remaining living hostage with American citizenship in Gaza comes ahead of the start of Trump's Middle East tour, which will visit Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar from Tuesday to Friday.
Qatar is one of the mediators between Israel and Hamas, regarding the war in Gaza.
"The al-Qasim Brigades have just released the Zionist soldier and American citizen, Adan Alexander, after contacts with the American administration, as part of the mediator's efforts to achieve a ceasefire," the group said.
The Israeli military had earlier said he would be taken to a reception center in Reim, in southern Israel, where he would be joined by family members, before being airlifted to a hospital in Tel Aviv.
A Hamas source said the movement was informed through an intermediary that there would be a pause in the fighting when the hostage was released.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked US President Trump for his help in freeing the hostages, Netanyahu's office reported.
Netanyahu also announced sending a delegation to Doha on Tuesday to negotiate the remaining hostages, after meeting in Jerusalem with US envoy Steve Witkoff, at a time when indirect talks between Hamas and Israel over a ceasefire are at a standstill.
Following the announcement of the hostage release, Hamas called on the Trump administration to "continue efforts to end the war in the Gaza Strip."
After a two-month ceasefire, Israel resumed its offensive on Gaza on March 18, capturing large parts of Palestinian territory, and on May 5, announcing a plan to completely conquer Gaza. Since May 2, the Israeli military has been prohibiting the entry of any humanitarian aid into Gaza.
