A suicide bomber in the Somali capital Mogadishu targeted recruits waiting to register at a military camp, killing at least 13 people and wounding 21 others.
No one has yet claimed responsibility, but Mogadishu has been repeatedly targeted by the al-Qaeda-linked Islamist extremist group al-Shabab, which often attacks military and government buildings as part of its efforts to impose its strict interpretation of Islamic law.
"There was a loud explosion and immediately people started running in all directions. There were bodies everywhere," said a witness to the explosion.
A soldier identified only as Hussein, who was part of the camp's guard unit, told The Associated Press that many young recruits were patiently waiting in line. "The explosion was powerful. I saw many casualties. The attacker disguised himself as a recruit before blowing himself up," he said.
He said that among the dead were five civilian bystanders.
