The Civil Defense in Gaza announced today, giving a new toll, that at least 52 people were killed in attacks by the Israeli army, which has intensified its offensive in the war-torn Palestinian territory.
It was previously reported that 22 people were killed in Israeli attacks last night and this morning.
"The Israeli bombardment of Gaza continued from midnight and lasted until the early hours of the morning, killing 52 people," civil defense spokesman Mahmoud Bassal told AFP.
He said the bombardment continued throughout the afternoon and that Israeli forces had expanded the ground operation.
The majority of Israeli attacks were around the city of Khan Yunis, in the south of the besieged Palestinian territory, and especially around Nasser Hospital, whose building was severely damaged.
Several people were killed in the northern Gaza Strip, including two in a drone attack on a tent for people displaced by the war, and Israeli forces killed several people in the courtyard of the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza.
The Indonesian hospital in Beit Lahia, in the north, has been surrounded for several days by the Israeli army, which claims that it, like other civilian buildings, is being used for military purposes by the Palestinian movement Hamas, which denies this.
The war was triggered by a Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, when 1.218 people were killed on the Israeli side, mostly civilians, and 251 people were kidnapped, 57 of whom are still in Gaza, but the Israeli military says 34 of them are dead.
Israeli attacks have killed 53.339 people in the Gaza Strip, mostly civilians, according to the latest figures from the Hamas Health Ministry, which the UN considers reliable.
