A drone attack in northwest Pakistan killed four children and injured five others, prompting thousands of residents to protest demanding justice.
"We don't blame anyone, but we want justice, and the government should tell us who killed our children," said local tribal elder Mufti Bajtullah.
They laid the bodies of the children on the main road during the protest. It is not known who was behind the attack in Mir Ali, a stronghold of the Pakistani Taliban, and the military has not commented on the incident.
Baitullah warned that the protest could spread if the authorities do not respond.
"We will not bury the bodies until we are told who is responsible for the murder of our innocent children," he said, as people chanted "we want justice."
The army is conducting an operation against the Pakistani Taliban, whose stronghold is Mir Ali, a city in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The Pakistani Taliban, known as Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, is a separate insurgent group from the Afghan Taliban and frequently attacks the army in the region.
Provincial Minister Nayak Muhammad Dawar condemned the attack and said an investigation was underway.
Mir Ali and the surrounding districts bordering Afghanistan have long been a stronghold for the Pakistani Taliban and other militant groups. The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan has stepped up attacks in the region in recent months.
