An Israeli airstrike on Gaza hit a doctor's house and killed nine of her ten children, the hospital where she works in the city of Khan Yunis said today, the BBC reports.
Nasser Hospital said one of Dr. Alaa al-Najjar's children and her husband were injured but survived.
Graham Groom, a British surgeon working at the hospital, said he operated on her surviving 11-year-old son.
A video shared by the director of the health ministry run by the Palestinian Hamas movement, and verified by the BBC, shows small, charred bodies being pulled from the rubble of the attack in Khan Yunis on Friday.
The BBC has reached out to the Israeli military for comment.
More than 70 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes on Friday, and at least six have died so far on Saturday, the Hamas-run Civil Defense Agency said.
Dr. Munir Albrush, director of the Ministry of Health, stated on the social media platform Xx that the family home was hit minutes after Dr. Al-Najjar's husband, Hamdi, returned home after driving his wife to work.
Alburš said that the oldest of the children was 12 years old.
Groom said the children's father was "very badly injured."
Mahmoud Basal, spokesman for the Hamas-run Civil Defense Agency in Gaza, said on Telegram on Friday afternoon that his teams had recovered eight bodies and several injured people from the house of Dr. Al-Najjar near a gas station in Khan Younis.
The hospital initially posted on Facebook that eight children had been killed, then updated that number to nine two hours later.
In an interview recorded by the AFP news agency, cousin Youssef al-Najjar said: "Enough! Have mercy on us! We appeal to all countries, the international community, the people, Hamas and all factions to have mercy on us. We are exhausted from displacement and hunger, enough!"
