The United States no longer recommends the Covid-19 vaccine for children or pregnant women, US Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. said today, adding that he had made a rational decision.
"I am very pleased to announce that, as of today, the COVID-19 vaccine for healthy children and pregnant women has been removed from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended vaccination schedule," Kennedy, a vaccine skeptic, said in a video message posted on the X platform.
His statement confirms the decision of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) last week, which recommends vaccination against Covid-19 only for people over 65 years of age or those aged six months to 64 years who have at least one risk factor for developing the disease.
The US has borne the brunt of the Covid-19 pandemic, with 1,2 million deaths, according to the World Health Organization.
