The US Court of Appeals on Thursday upheld the tariffs sought by US President Donald Trump, which had previously been blocked by another US court, which the US government appealed.
The tariffs have been temporarily approved, pending a court decision on the merits of the case, Trump's right to impose them without a decision from Congress.
The government has filed a request for an immediate stay of a decision made by the US Trade Tribunal (ITC) that invalidated the so-called "reciprocal" tariffs sought by Trump, as well as tariffs imposed on China, Canada and Mexico as part of the fight against the fentanyl trade.
The White House criticized the first court decision to suspend a large part of Trump's tariff measures, and the ruling was welcomed by major US trading partners, while China called for the "complete repeal" of Trump's tariff measures.
