The Gaza Civil Defense reported today that 13 people were killed in attacks by Israeli forces in two separate locations, and six of them were killed in a shooting near a US-backed aid center in the southern Palestinian territory.
"At around 7.00:XNUMX this morning, six people were killed and several others were wounded in an attack by Israeli occupation forces near the Alam roundabout, where people had gathered to receive humanitarian aid from an American center in the southern Rafah region," Mahmoud Basal, a spokesman for the civil defense in the territory, told AFP.
A Gaza resident who was present told Agence France-Presse that thousands of people had gathered around the roundabout and as hundreds of them tried to enter the aid center, Israeli occupation forces opened fire from armored vehicles parked next to the center, first shooting into the air and then at civilians.
When asked by Agence France-Presse, the Israeli military said it would check the facts.
Several tragedies have recently occurred near the aid center run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), an organization whose funding is opaque and which is supported by the US and Israel.
The GHF began operations in Gaza at the end of May, following the partial lifting of the complete two-month Israeli blockade, when the population of the Palestinian enclave was deprived of all humanitarian aid.
The United Nations refuses to work with the organization due to concerns about its procedures and neutrality.
Seven more people were killed today and several others were wounded, including children, in an Israeli strike at around 5am this morning on a house near al-Shifa hospital near Gaza City, in the northern Palestinian territory, Basal said.
The American news agency AP reported that at least 22 people were killed in Gaza overnight between Friday and Saturday.
