One person survived a plane crash that took off for London from Ahmedabad airport in India, the city's police commissioner said.
He told the ANI news agency that the surviving passenger from seat 11A has been taken to hospital and is receiving treatment, Beta reports, citing the BBC.
According to the passenger list previously released by authorities, seat 11A was Vishwas Kumar Ramesh, a British citizen.
Indian media reported that they spoke to him at the hospital, and he showed them his boarding pass with his name and seat number.
According to Indian media, he said that thirty seconds after takeoff he heard a loud noise and then the plane crashed.
"It all happened so quickly," he said, according to Indian media, the BBC reports.
An Air India plane carrying 242 passengers and crew, bound for London, crashed minutes after taking off from the western Indian city of Ahmedabad, the airline and police said.
Local media outlet The Indian Express had earlier reported, citing police, that all 242 people had died, Reuters reported.

The plane was en route to Britain's Gatwick Airport, Air India said, while police officials said it crashed in an area near the airport.
"The building it collapsed on is a doctors' hostel," a senior police official told reporters.
Of the 242 people on board, 217 were adults and 11 children, a source told Reuters. Among them were 169 Indian nationals, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese and one Canadian, Air India said.
Air India said there were 230 passengers and 12 crew members on the flight.
Flight tracking website Flightradar24 said it was a Boeing 24-787 Dreamliner, one of the most modern passenger jets in use.
"We are currently ascertaining the details and will keep the public updated," Air India said on social media. The injured are being transported to the nearest hospitals.

The crash occurred immediately after takeoff, television networks reported. One channel showed the plane taking off over a residential area and then disappearing from the screen before a burst of fire bursts into the frame, rising above the houses.
The footage also shows the remains of the plane in flames, with thick, black smoke rising into the sky near the airport. It also shows people on stretchers and in ambulances.
According to air traffic control at Ahmedabad airport, the plane took off at 13:39 p.m. local time (09:09 CET) from runway 23. It made a "Mayday" call, signaling an emergency, but there was no response from the plane after that.
Flightradar24 also stated that the last signal from the plane was received a few seconds after takeoff.
"The aircraft in question is a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner with the registration VT-ANB," they stated.
Boeing said it was aware of the initial reports and was working to gather additional information.
