United States President Donald Trump said he was disappointed, but not finished, with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
"I'm disappointed, but I'm not done with him," Trump said in a telephone interview with the BBC when asked if he was done with Putin.
When asked if he trusts Putin, he replied that he trusts almost no one, Anadolu reports.
The interview came after Trump on Monday outlined a tougher approach toward Russia over its war in Ukraine, promising new shipments of missiles and advanced weaponry to Kiev and giving Moscow 50 days to agree to a ceasefire or face "very serious" secondary tariffs.
Trump stated that he thought a deal with Russia was in sight four times.
He said the US is working to end the ongoing war in Ukraine.
"We'll have a great conversation. I'll say - that's good, I think we're close to completion, and then he'll knock down the building in Kiev," Trump said.
When asked if he still thought NATO was "obsolete", he answered in the negative.
"I think NATO is now becoming the opposite of that, because the alliance is paying its own bills," Trump said.
He said he still believes in collective defense, because it allows smaller nations to protect themselves from more powerful adversaries.
