New balance: Three killed, 34 injured in Israeli attacks on Damascus

Three people were killed and 34 injured in Israeli attacks on Damascus, which reportedly targeted the Syrian army headquarters today, the Syrian Ministry of Health announced.

Heavy attacks destroyed a wing of a four-story building next to the Ministry of Defense, AFP journalists reported.

The famous Umayyad Square, which overlooks the complex, usually packed, was empty, with only military and emergency vehicles.

The initial report stated that one person was killed and 18 injured.

The Israeli military said it had hit a "military target" in the area of the Syrian presidential palace in Damascus, after earlier today it said it had hit an army headquarters in the Syrian capital.

Eyewitnesses told Agence France-Presse that an explosion had occurred near the presidential palace.

"The Israeli army continues to strike military targets belonging to the Syrian regime in Damascus," the army said in a statement, adding that a military target was hit in the area of the Syrian regime's presidential palace in the city.
