At least 60 people have been killed in a fire at a hypermarket in the eastern Iraqi city of al-Qut, while 11 people are missing, local health authorities said, Reuters reports.
"We still have bodies that have not been pulled out and are under the rubble engulfed by the fire," city official Ali al-Majahi told Reuters.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, but the provincial governor said preliminary results of the investigation would be released within 48 hours, state news agency INA reported.
"We have filed lawsuits against the owners of the building and the shopping center," the governor said, according to INA.
The fire at the shopping mall, which opened just five days ago, broke out on Wednesday evening and has since been brought under control.
According to the BBC, ambulances continued to transport victims throughout the night to a hospital in the city, which is located some 160 kilometers from Baghdad.
