Israeli special forces arrested Marwan Al-Hams, a senior official in the Gaza Health Ministry, outside an International Committee of the Red Cross field hospital in the southern Gaza Strip, the ministry said on Monday.

According to them, Hams, who was in charge of the operation of field hospitals in the enclave, was on his way to visit an ICRC hospital in the town of Rafah when an Israeli unit "kidnapped" him after opening fire, killing one person and wounding another civilian, Reuters reports.

Doctors said a local journalist who was filming an interview with Hams at the time of the incident was killed.

An ICRC spokesman said their hospital had received and treated those injured in the incident, but would not comment on their condition to protect the patients' privacy. He added that they were "very concerned about the safety and security" around the field hospital.

The Israeli military did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

During the 21-month war in Gaza, Israel has repeatedly raided and attacked hospitals across the Gaza Strip, accusing Hamas of using them as a front for military operations — charges the Palestinian militant group denies. However, the use of special forces to make arrests is rare.
