US President Donald Trump's wife Melania Trump has written a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin highlighting the plight of children in Ukraine and Russia, two White House officials said.
President Donald Trump personally delivered the letter to Putin during a meeting in Alaska, officials told Reuters.
Officials did not reveal the contents of the letter except to say it mentioned child abductions during the war in Ukraine.
Ukraine claims that the Russian side has abducted tens of thousands of children and taken them to Russia since the beginning of the invasion in 2022.
Kiev calls the abduction of children without the consent of their families or guardians a war crime. Moscow claims it is protecting children from fire in a war zone.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the US first lady during a phone call with Trump today, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiha said on the X network.
The United Nations Human Rights Office said that Russia has caused suffering to millions of Ukrainian children and has been violating their rights since 2022.
