Brazilian Justice Minister Ricardo Lewandowski's visa to the United States of America (US) has been revoked, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said today, condemning Washington's move as irresponsible.
Lula expressed solidarity with his minister, following another measure taken by Washington against Brazil, in response to the ongoing trial of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who is on trial for an attempted coup.
"The measures are unacceptable, not only against the minister, but also against Supreme Court judges or any other Brazilian figure," Lula added.
The Ministry of Justice has still not accepted the visa cancellation.
Another visa was revoked for a Brazilian citizen in July, when the judge in Bolsonaro's case, Aleksandar Moraes, was denied.
Several other members of the Supreme Court have been subjected to the same sanction, the Brazilian government claims.
Former President Bolsonaro has been accused of conspiring to maintain his power "in an authoritarian manner," despite his electoral defeat by Lula in 2022.
His trial is expected to be completed by mid-September.
