Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed Israel's determination to continue the offensive in the Gaza Strip after intense nighttime attacks by the Israeli army on and within Gaza City.
"Gaza is burning. The army is striking with an iron fist at the terrorist infrastructure, and soldiers are fighting bravely to create the conditions necessary for the release of hostages and the defeat of Hamas," Katz wrote on the X platform.
"We will not relent or give up until the mission is completed," the Israeli defense minister added.
Gaza City was targeted by heavy and sustained bombardment late last night, eyewitnesses told Agence France-Presse.
The attack occurred shortly after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited Jerusalem, where he was staying to express US support for Israel.
"There is massive and continuous bombardment in Gaza, and the danger continues to grow," Ahmed Ghazal, a resident of the area, told AFP, adding that the bombardment began at around 1 a.m. local time last night.
Gaza Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Bassal told AFP that "bombardments continue intensively across Gaza City," adding that "the number of dead and wounded continues to rise."
