European Council President Antonio Costa reiterated at the United Nations that the two-state solution is the only solution for achieving peace between Israel and Palestine.
"A secure state of Israel recognized by all member states of the United Nations General Assembly. An independent, democratic and viable state of Palestine. Two existing side by side. In peace," he said in New York.
He reiterated the European Union's call for an immediate ceasefire, unrestricted and safe access for humanitarian aid, and the unconditional release of all hostages.
"We condemn the ongoing military offensive in Gaza City. We also strongly condemn the escalation of violence in the West Bank. We call on Israel to end these operations. To stop the illegal settlements," he added.
He stressed that after the conflict there is no place for Hamas, for terrorism, for illegal settlements and for the killing of innocent civilians, the EU announced.
"Nowhere: not in Gaza, not in the West Bank, not in East Jerusalem, not in Israel," he said.
