Reactions to Trump's Gaza plan

The Palestinian Authority highlighted the "sincere and determined efforts" of US President Donald Trump, stating that it "believes in his ability to find a path to peace" in the Gaza Strip, while the plan presented last night to end the war between Israel and Hamas was condemned by Islamic Jihad as a "recipe for aggression" against the Palestinians.

"What was announced at the press conference between Trump and Netanyahu is an agreement between the US and Israel and represents the position of the entire Israeli establishment. It is a recipe for continued aggression against the Palestinian people," the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement said.

Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Indonesia and Pakistan issued a joint statement welcoming "the role of the US president and his sincere efforts to end the war in Gaza."

European Council President Antonio Costa called on all parties to "seize this moment to give peace a real chance."

"The situation in Gaza is unbearable. Hostilities must cease and all hostages must be released immediately," Košta said on the Iks network.

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who is said to play a prominent role on a committee overseeing the Gaza transition, hailed the plan as "bold and intelligent."

This plan "offers us the best chance of ending two years of war," Tony Blair said in a statement.

Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said last night that they had agreed on a plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip, but it is unclear whether the other side - the Palestinian Hamas - will accept these conditions.

Trump presented a 20-point plan to end the war between Israel and Hamas and to establish a post-war administration in the war-torn Gaza Strip.

Trump said Israel would have Washington's "full support" to take steps to defeat Hamas if the Palestinian extremist organization does not accept the proposed peace deal.

Trump's plan envisages the establishment of an interim board of directors headed by the US president, which would include former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
