The death toll from the collapse of an Islamic high school boarding building in Indonesia on Monday has risen to 45, rescuers searching for those missing under the rubble said today.
"According to our calculations, the total number of victims we have evacuated is 149 - 45 dead and 104 survivors," the National Search and Rescue Agency said, adding that at least 26 people were still missing.
A modern multi-storey building in the city of Sidoarjo, in the province of Java, in eastern Indonesia, suddenly collapsed on Monday as students gathered for afternoon prayers.
The collapse of the school was so severe that it caused an earthquake in the village.
The building that collapsed did not meet building standards, and weak foundations are suspected to be the cause of the accident.
