After a landslide that killed at least 24 people, rescuers in India's northeastern state of West Bengal began searching for the missing today.
The West Bengal Development Minister announced that in addition to rescuers, the army is also involved in the search.
A landslide near the town of Darjeeling was triggered by heavy rains yesterday. Several houses were destroyed and hundreds of tourists were trapped over the past two days. Two bridges also collapsed due to the rain. Showers and damaged roads are making it difficult for rescue teams to reach several nearby villages.
In recent months, cloudbursts, floods and landslides across India have caused extensive damage and loss of life. Apart from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Maldives and Nepal have also been affected.
