Iran's Revolutionary Guard: Saudi Arabia behind attack in Tehran

Iran's Revolutionary Guard announced today that Saudi Arabia was behind two attacks today in Iran's capital, Tehran, in which at least 12 people were killed and 43 wounded, and its deputy commander, Brigadier General Hossein Salami, announced retaliation against the Islamic State, which claimed responsibility. and her allies.

"The terrorist attack took place only a week after the meeting between the US president (Donald Trump) and (Saudi) backsliding leaders who support terrorists. The fact that the Islamic State claimed responsibility proves that they were involved in this brutal attack," the Iranian statement said. Revolutionary Guards, reports Reuters.

All the attackers on the Iranian parliament were killed earlier today, Iraqi authorities said.

The attackers, dressed as women, entered the main gate of the parliament and opened fire, explained Mohamed Hossein Zolfagharim, reports Tasnim agency.

"One of the attackers was killed, and the other activated an explosive belt and blew himself up," he added. According to the first reports, there are at least three dead and several injured in the attacks.

Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack.

The attackers opened fire in the Iranian parliament building and in the mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini in Tehran, about 20 kilometers away.

A woman had already blown herself up earlier outside the mausoleum, according to Iranian media.

The attacks were carried out in very symbolic places for Iran, in the parliament and near the mausoleum of the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Khomeini.

Numerous security forces have been deployed around those places, and Iran's Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli called an emergency meeting of the National Security Council.

Such attacks are unusual for Iran, the last ones happened in the years after the Islamic revolution in 1979, and they were mostly carried out by members of the armed organization Mujahideen of the People.
