Former United States President Joseph Biden is receiving hormone and radiation therapy as part of a new phase of treatment for an aggressive form of prostate cancer he was diagnosed with after leaving office, his aide said.
Biden left office in January, after dropping his bid for re-election six months earlier.
After the debate against then-candidate and now US President Donald Trump, concerns arose in high circles of the Democratic Party about Biden's age, health, and mental fitness, which led Biden to withdraw his candidacy and support then-US Vice President Kamala Harris.
In May, Biden's office announced that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer that had spread to his bones. His office said the type of cancer Biden had was among the most aggressive.
Biden, who turns 83 next month, underwent a procedure known as Mohs surgery in September, a precise technique that removes cancer from the skin layer by layer while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible. Biden's team said the disease is aggressive but also hormone-sensitive, meaning it is likely to respond to treatment, Hina recalls.
