A Hamas delegation will meet today with officials from Egypt and Qatar to discuss the fragile ceasefire and the post-war situation in Gaza, a source close to the meeting's organizers told AFP.
Egypt and Qatar have long been playing the role of mediators in negotiations between Israel and Hamas to end the war in Gaza.
He said that the meeting between Hamas and mediators in Cairo is expected to focus specifically on yesterday's "dozens of Israeli airstrikes" on the Gaza Strip.
An AFP source said the delegation and several Hamas leaders would hold meetings with Egyptian officials about the expected inter-Palestinian dialogue, which would be sponsored by Egypt.
Egypt has already hosted several meetings of Palestinian political movements, including the two main Palestinian political groups, Hamas and the Fatah faction, to which Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas belongs.
The two movements have been at odds for decades.
"The dialogue is intended to unite the Palestinian political body and discuss major issues, including the future of the Gaza Strip and the formation of a committee of independent experts to govern the territory," the source told AFP.
This plan is in line with US President Donald Trump's proposal to establish a transitional technocratic government under the supervision of a committee headed by Trump himself.
Hamas has already stated that it does not want to govern the Gaza Strip.
Several Palestinian political leaders have already considered forming a group to govern Gaza in recent months without being affiliated with the Palestinian Authority.
Another source told AFP that "the contacts and efforts of the mediators last night made it possible to establish peace and reactivate the ceasefire in Gaza," adding that "the mediators will continue to monitor and monitor violations by Israel."
