The armed wing of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas announced that it would hand over the body of one of the last hostages still being held in the Gaza Strip during the evening.
"As part of the prisoner exchange agreement, the Al-Quds Brigades (the armed wing of Islamic Jihad) and the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades (the military wing of Hamas) will hand over at around 19:00 Central European Time the body of a prisoner found today in Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip," the organization said in a brief statement.
Under the terms of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, which came into effect on October 10 under US pressure after more than two years of war in Gaza, Hamas and its allies still owe six hostages.
Since the start of the ceasefire, Hamas has suddenly released all 20 surviving hostages in exchange for the release of about 2.000 Palestinian prisoners and has begun returning the bodies of the dead hostages.
The remaining six bodies belong to five Israelis and one Thai citizen.
Despite several instances of tension and conflict, a fragile ceasefire has been in place in the Gaza Strip since October 10, in accordance with a US-brokered agreement aimed at the return of all hostages taken in Israel, both alive and dead.
