The Gaza Health Ministry announced today that more than 69.000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 170.000 wounded so far in the war between Israel and the armed Palestinian movement Hamas.
This increase in the death toll is explained by the greater number of bodies found under the rubble since the fragile ceasefire was declared and the identification of the bodies.
Israel returned the bodies of 15 Palestinians to Gaza today, a day after Hamas returned the body of one of its hostages to Israel under a US-brokered ceasefire agreement.
The bodies were returned after Hamas last night gave Israel the body of an Israeli killed in fighting during Hamas's attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which started the war.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office announced that the body had been identified as Lior Rudaef.
As part of the ceasefire agreement, Israel is required to return the bodies of 15 Palestinians for every hostage Hamas hands over.
