The State of Palestine welcomed the adoption of the US resolution on Gaza by the United Nations Security Council. The resolution, they pointed out, affirms the establishment of a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, and the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state.
In a statement, they stressed the need for urgent implementation of the resolution on the ground, in a manner that ensures a return to normal life, protects Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, prevents displacement, "ensures the complete withdrawal of the occupying forces, enables reconstruction, stops the undermining of the two-state solution, and prevents annexation."
They also expressed their full readiness to cooperate with the US administration, members of the Security Council, Arab and Islamic states, the European Union and its member states, the United Nations and all parties of the international coalition and partners in the New York Declaration, to ensure the implementation of that resolution in a manner that "ends the suffering of our Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and East Jerusalem", and advances a political path that leads to peace, security and stability between Palestinians and Israelis, on the basis of a two-state solution "founded on international law and international legitimacy."
They reiterated their readiness to assume full responsibility in the Gaza Strip, "within the framework of the unity of the country, people and institutions," considering the Strip an integral part of the State of Palestine.
The State of Palestine also expressed its gratitude to all countries that have shown their willingness to cooperate with them and relevant parties to support "Palestinian efforts to end the occupation and achieve freedom and independence, based on their commitment to advancing a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue - one that brings peace, stability and security to the region and the world at large."
