Four people were killed and 10 were wounded in a shooting at a family gathering at a banquet hall in Stockton, California, local officials said last night.
The victims include both children and adults, said Heather Brent, a spokeswoman for the San Joaquim County Sheriff's Office.
The shooting happened just before 18 p.m. at the banquet hall, which shares a parking lot with several other businesses. This is the holiday weekend after Thanksgiving when many Americans gather with their families.
Stockton is a city of 320.000 people about 64 miles south of Sacramento.
"According to initial information, this appears to have been a targeted incident," Brent said at a press conference at the scene.
Local officials said the suspected shooter has not been caught and asked for the public's help. Detectives are still working to determine a possible motive.
"If you have any information about this individual, please contact us immediately. If you are that individual, please turn yourself in immediately," San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas said at a press conference.
Authorities did not immediately provide additional information about the condition of the wounded, other than saying that several were taken to the hospital.
"Families need to be together with their loved ones praying that they survive," said Mayor Kristina Fugazi.
