Negotiations between a Ukrainian delegation and senior US officials began today in the US state of Florida, where they will discuss the US plan for finding a way out of the war with Russia, Agence France-Presse reported on the spot.
The talks are attended by Ukrainian negotiators, led by Rustem Umerov, and a US delegation led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, accompanied by United States President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law.
Rubio said the conversation with the Ukrainian delegation was aimed at "paving the way" for a sovereign Ukraine.
"It's not just a matter of ending the war. It's a matter of paving the way for Ukraine to remain sovereign, independent and prosperous," Rubio said at the start of the meeting.
The head of the Ukrainian delegation, Rustem Umerov, said he wanted to talk with the Americans about the security and reconstruction of Ukraine.
Umerov added that his delegation's mission is to "guarantee Ukraine's interests."
