Canada has removed Syria from its list of state sponsors of terrorism and removed the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group, the leader of the rebel alliance that toppled President Bashar al-Assad, from its list of terrorist organizations, the Canadian government announced on Friday.
"The measures are consistent with recent moves by our allies, including the United Kingdom and the United States, and follow the efforts of the Syrian Transitional Government to promote the stability of Syria, build an inclusive and secure future for its citizens, and work with global partners to strengthen regional stability and combat terrorism," the Canadian government said in a statement.
